Built in 1998 and designed to cope with up to 17 million passengers each year, it is currently servicing a little over 14 million. Major airlines: Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS; tel: 8100 3300; website: www.scandinavian.net), is the national carrier with direct flights to Oslo from Newark and via Copenhagen from other US airports, including Seattle and Chicago, and daily flights from the UK. Oslo is a major hub with regular domestic flights to 50 Norwegian airports. Braathens (tel: 6759 7000; website: www.braathens.no), SAS and Widerøe (tel: 6711 1460; website: www.wideroe.no), operate daily scheduled services including 35 return flights a day to the major cities, Bergen, Trondheim and Stavanger. Other major carriers include: British Airways and Icelandair. Approximate flight times to Oslo: From London is 2 hours; from New York is 7 hours 20 minutes; from Los Angeles is 14 hours; from Toronto is 10 hours 25 minutes and from Sydney is 26 hours 35 minutes. Airport facilities: These include an airport hotel, bank and currency exchange office, ATMs, cafés, bars and restaurants, various shops, including newsagents, pharmacy, gift shop and a travel agency. There are lounges, a VIP lounge, silent room/meditation area, a first aid room and a tourist help desk. Car rental firms with representation in the terminal building are Avis, Bil Expo, Budget, Hertz and Statoil. Business facilities: Four business lounges are available to passengers of Braathens, SAS, British Airways and their numerous partners. Arrival/departure tax: A departure tax of NOK207 is included in the ticket. Transport to the city: Flytoget (tel: 8150 0777) is the new airport express train from the airport to Oslo S Station. The journey time is 19 minutes and departures are every 10 minutes. SAS transport Service (tel: 2300 2409) operates a bus service from the airport to Oslo centre (journey time - 45 minutes). Taxis can be ordered in advance from Oslo Taxi Central (tel: 2238 8090) but this should not be necessary as there are ranks outside the arrivals entrance. The fare to central Oslo is NOK130. |
